You don’t need to act for getting business

This is one of the most interesting stories I want to share and this is about My Business Act.

Most people (and I am one of them) when experience anything first time…get excited and then we start acting, but once honeymoon gets over you realize YOU ACTED LIKE A JERK that time.

In August 2008 I started my first business and in coming days, my excitement of running my own business reached cloud 9 and I still remember when one of my friend said “Neeraj you should behave like owner of a business, be a boss….buy blazers, buy a good watch, have French cut and whole lot of advice about how you should impress your client.

Wooo those words were like golden words for me that time and I thought if I do so…I will get good business, client will be happy with this look and most importantly I will have THE so called ATTITUDE.

It’s not about skills, its about NEVER GIVING UP – Entrepreneurship

Last week I got an opportunity to have lunch with a very experienced “ENTREPRENEUR” thanks to Mr Vipul Rawal, my client and also a very good support.

That entrepreneur is having factories, a very good product range, around 160 staff and he is simply great. He is around 1.5 times older to me and even older to my dad’s age. We had a very long meeting that day, apart from discussing about his project…I got chance to learn from his experience of more than 40 years.

The only word which I can take from that meeting and also this is the word which defines passionate people…and the word is “NEVER GIVE UP”.

I confess….I gave up in my first business…but I never gave up my dream of building a very large business house (I got 10 more years to do so) which offers the best to best service in my domain. Continue reading →

Never run behind every voice – Must for startups

In last few months, I have seen some changes in me and the major change is “Saying NO to business”.

Earlier I use to say YES to everything, I use to say “YES I DO” to every client. It was good, it was fun, but it was not BUSINESS.

After burning my fingers…I started saying NO to some clients, and then started saying NO to some prospective clients and most importantly I started saying NO to my craze of selling.

Here is the story of how I started saying NO.

_______________

My first NO:

Around Feb 2010, I was sitting with the VP of a multinational company, having offices all over the world, in India they have more than 250 employees. I was pitching for his company website, emails and server.

As always I gave my 99% and client was damn convinced. Now we came to pricing. I quoted what was reasonable and was giving me a good profit. Continue reading →

Stay away from million dollar temptation to make millions

If someone asks me, Neeraj what you have learned in last 2 years of your experience as an entrepreneur….its “FOCUS” and not running too much “only” behind making the money.

I love making money like everyone…but one thing which I love most these days is FOCUS and following your focus. But it doesn’t mean you miss opportunities.

Yes it is true (as far as my experience is concerned)…without Focus you can’t do anything in business and most importantly it’s the choice you make.

Before I move further, let me give you my own personal example of what mistake I did in my initial days.

It was July 2008 when I left my job…so that I can Focus on my dream and my desire of doing business. But soon I started seeing millions everywhere, I started seeing new new opportunities everywhere and this led me to do many things. I took some projects just for making quick money and then investing my whole time in that particular work and not FOCUSING on the job portal for which I left my job.

From arranging people for a coaching class, candidates for an educational NGO, sending couriers on behalf of other companies for promotion and I spent my days thinking how can I make my business (job portal) better?

And then God came and I found the right way. The way God work is somewhat different…he first kick your ass and then give the best jel for your burn. Continue reading →

Managing startup is like a suicide for entrepreneurs

Starting a business is one of the easiest task…however managing the business is like a suicide attempt for a startup. Why?

Before I move further…let me clarify why I am saying “Managing startups is a suicide for entrepreneurs”.

The most important thing for a young startup is expanding business and quality of service. When things are small it’s ok to manage the operation and at the same time focusing on sales.

But as business grows, you get more people in the team and your liabilities increases….then you being the money making guy of your startup…you can’t spend your more time in doing the work which others can do (whom you have hired) and you loosing the sales opportunities. Continue reading →

Attitude is what makes you THE MICHALE JACKSON

How many times during the day you say NO? How many times you try to move away from responsibilities? How many times you just want to run away from situation? And most importantly how many times you give excuse?

Well…the bottom line is NOT HOW MANY TIME….but it is WHY? Why you say NO to things, why you run away from responsibilities and problems and why you give an excuse for not doing something.

90% of my job involves interacting with people all the time. And one of the most important thing I like about the interaction is I get to know more about human thoughts and attitude. And one thing which I see most of the time is “WANT TO F&*^ WITHOUT EFFORT”. I feel bad when I see people who don’t want to do hard work, just want to avoid doing the work and people who get this word NO all the time. Continue reading →

If you like her propose her, else you will lose million

One of my client called me today to collect payment, I was berry berry happy…while coming back to office, I saw a girl…and first thing I saw…was her eyes, as that was the first eyes in my college days which took my heart and today also I try to see same eyes in every girl.

From her eyes, my eyes moved to her lips, then to her chicks (keep counting how much time I am using “S” at the end of a word), from her chicks my eyes moved to her full face, then from full face…it moved a bit down (please, please don’t think fishy…picture abhi baki hain)…..then I saw her hands and saw very good bangles…then I saw her saree…she was looking damn good, boleto damn good.

I was very happy, was having client payment in one hand and then seeing this girl (ya first crush of my life).  Situation was perfect, then the monk inside me moved his eyes to other part of body…and then what I saw broke my heart, I felt like I lost millions.

And what I saw, a MANGALSUTRA and ek chutki sindoor ki…yes she got married. I got only few minutes to stand next to her, as we both were waiting for cab. And then she left….I guess she left for life and left me lifeless. Continue reading →

A women take 9 month to deliver a baby, what about you?

We know that a pregnant woman takes at least 9 month to deliver a baby.  Sometime if she deliver before 9 months, in most of the case we know the consequences.

Now why I am saying this…well I did the mistake of delivering a baby before 9 month and was expecting too much from it…and now when I am seeing other people doing so…I can’t stop myself then to write “Please, Please give time to your baby…don’t expect wonder and never take him out from her womb before time”.

Why this?

In last few months I have worked on around 40 internet projects, from a just one day work to 5 months work, from a very very small website to one of the most mammoth website, from just a 000 rupees to going to lakhs….and in all these, yes in all these websites I found one thing common and that is WRONG EXPECTATIONs FROM A RIGHT RESOURCE.

I always say to my client, please don’t expect wonder from your website…its just bunch of codes and it can not do anything unless and until you don’t do anything. Continue reading →

Golden rule for making millions – Sleep peacefully

It’s now around 2 year when first time I started working a business plan and was not loving my old job…and surely the dream of making million was keeping me awake all the night.

Even after starting my first business, all night I use to sleep with tension, thinking what I have to do next day and how I can take money from my clients. The result I am running a different business now.

Well for me that was the best moment of my life, why because those lose, the closer of my first business, helped me in establishing WebNeeTech…which is the implementation of learning from my first business.

But when I look back and see why I am confident now to make millions is because of one reason and that is “I am able to sleep peacefully now”.

And how you can sleep peacefully….only and only when your client can sleep peacefully. If your clients can’t sleep peacefully…..then you are here only for few days. When your client is happy….and even if your business is financially not that much sound at present, don’t worry “YOU ARE BUILDING A STRONG FOUNDATION WHICH WILL LAST FOR THE YEARS TO COME” Continue reading →

An inheritance from my dad and mom is troubling me now

The best thing for  a child is to learn from his parents and it also gives huge joy to the parents also. Like most of the other children, I have also learned n number of things from my dad and mom, intentionality and most of the time unintentionally, for example I prefer to walk most of the time like my mom do and I prefer to take cab most of the time like my dad do. Now you know where the trouble is.

Having parents who are best in their respective fields and when both are correct at their places and values….it brings huge trouble to the child.

Now here is one such quality which I inherited from my parents  and now it’s becoming a trouble for me in one way and its giving me huge huge million dollar benefit in other way…but a human mind always focus on THE TROUBLE.

I inherited Art of Giving from my Dad and Art of Saving from my Mom, and now I am in trouble. Continue reading →

How to kill a fat rat? I am killing few everyday

It’s been one and half years since I jumped into the world of entrepreneurship and from my first day on the job of an entrepreneur I find a FAT RAT disturbing me every time…so I decided to kill them and getting success everyday.

So what is a FAT RAT? I got this word after looking a fat rat on Kurla railway station and this fat rat was really really fat. Now you must be thinking what a fat rat has to do with a dream of million dollar company and entrepreneur life ..you will find this as you read further.

The tele girl who convinced me to get laid

Being a sales man I always follow, every call is a sales call…either you sell something or the person on other side of phone sell you his shit.

Well I am not alone who follow this principal. Some days back I got a call from a lady, with very good accent, good command on language and most importantly she knows how to cut the guys. And I happened to be that one GUY.

She sold me package of worth  some thousand rupees for a good service and I am happy that I bought that service which is really helping me today. But the main reason of writing this post is not to talk about the service she sold me….but how she convinced me to get laid and how we also can do so?

How she convinced me and what a sales person should learn from her?

1) Know your prospective client in an out:

She was damn good in that. When she called me, she must have searched about me and my company in an out. When she called me, she started the call as “Hello Mr Tiwari, this is %%&#@ from XYZ company and you are the CEO of WebNeeTech which is into website development and applications”. I said yes. She continued “Sir you were also running a job portal earlier”. I again said yes. And then she took it all. “Sir yours is a startup and you must be looking for more clients for your company so to grow big and get things moving “. Yes that’s what I always want. Continue reading →

The crossed leg with a BUT

Ahhaa what a day…today is Sunday and I got no time to sleep, eat and yes to see movies. Made a visit to my friend’s house for some work and while coming back to home…I saw a beautiful married lady sitting in front of me with her leg crossed (you know what I mean, don’t you?).  She was looking great, with good smile, good voice, good face and everything was good good…except that crossed leg.  She crossed the leg in the most beautiful way one can see…but, yes there is always a BUT in every story and every body.

So here is the “BUT” I am talking about…she was damn good, but she was not in good mood…and next to her was sitting her husband (ahhaa…that is a pain again)…BUT they were not communicating as a husband wife should do. Everyone in train smelled there must have been some fight between these two before she crossed her legs. She was not replying his questions, she was bit rude to him and was not even looking at him…just looking down. Continue reading →

Dekha Ek Khawab To Ye Silsile Hue…

Khwab, which also mean Dreams, AND for the job of entrepreneurship the first requirement is Dream, THE KHAWAB.

It is said any thing are built twice….first in your dreams and then in reality. Dreams are very important to make sure you are on right path and your present actions are in line with that.

I always believe in “If you dream high…you go smooth”.

But what exactly the dream is?

She was about to gift me a golden ring, some new clothes and yes she was ready to bear my expenses for next coming months.

But that night, things changed…I got a call from her saying…we can’t live together and its time we should end this relation…but we will continue to be good friends and you can think about me all the day, the time we spent together and much more.

Bootstrapping Vs Funding – Whom to marry?

Thanks to my first business, I got involved in social networking activities and met many people, startups and most of them talk about funding, talk about VC, etc. Even sometime I smelled that Are they doing business for getting funds and not for achieving the objective?

For me, WebNeeTech BOOT STRAPPING is the best option at present, but yes I can’t ignore the benefits of funding too. But again, I can’t ignore the super duper benefits of bootstrapping.

Why I love boot strapping (up to some level)?

Boot Strapping actually means “Help oneself, often through improvised means”. In startup words…Boot Strapping means running your business with the funds you have, you invest what you earn and that’s how you build business.

I learned this from my last business, that THE BEST WAY TO FUND YOUR BUSINESS IS BY SELLING the products or services you have, instead of hoping for funds.  When I need funds…I focus more on selling and getting revenue and not thinking about from whom I can ask for funds.

The other benefit of boot strapping is you learn from the hard way…which prepares you for bad days and make your stronger. Continue reading →

When entrepreneurs get raped.Why, How?

One of the rock stars at WebNeeTech, today, coined a word“WE GOT RAPED?” That was the moment to laugh and we did it loudly.

But while coming back home…I once again laughed thinking the word WE GOT RAPED. But it was not just a normal laugh…the laugh was to throw out tension and really think about why we got raped and how to avoid that in future.

(Disclaimer) Before I move forward, a clarification “By the word Rape here I mean a condition, situation, interaction when someone say bad things about you, insult you, shouts on you, criticize you, ignore you and all in front of you”. By rape here I don’t mean any thing physical.

So again back from biology, I started thinking….how to avoid such situation and what are the best solutions available “When entrepreneurs get raped?” Continue reading →

First rule, never trust your dad

The most important learning for any business person is “Never Trust your Dad”.

A mother of a successful business man went to her husband and said “Our son is now 10 years and growing older day by day. I want you to start teaching business lessons right from now so that he would be a seasoned business man in future”

Dad said “alright. Call him”

Son came with a little hesitation because of his dad’s unusual assertiveness.

Dad carried him and placed him on the top of a cupboard.

“Common son, jump from there”

“Dad, its too high and I may get myself injured if I jump from here”

“Don’t worry son, I am here to catch you. Common, jump” Continue reading →

What women want? Finally I found that

2010 is giving me lot of surprises and a chance to learn and sharpen my axe everyday. After meeting and greeting around 80 women’s in last 8 month of forming WebNeeTech, I am able to understand now WHAT WOMEN WANT(s)? and how can I improve myself, the way I deal with them and the way I can make them happy……though I have not learned everything about a women, how to please them…..but I know bit about them now (hope I become Tom Cruise in pleasing women).

Sales ties knot with operation in December 2009

Last month WebNeeTech faced a very learning problem and that was Sales vs Operation. In WebNeeTech I am responsible for sales and overall management of the company and our operation head, Sanat takes control of operation management of the company. Before his arrival I was from the school of thought, Sales is everything in a business…but my thoughts now are “Sales can’t live without operation and operation can’t live without sales…so both dudes are right”.

Its very important to have a constant flow of orders but at the same time…the operation (the product delivery) is that much important too. We faced an issue in the starting of December…when we had so many projects in hand…and I was running behind getting more…that time our operation or I should say product delivery started falling…we were missing deadlines..finally this situation helped me in learning one of the important lesson…Your SALES SHOULD BE IN CO-ORDINATION WITH YOUR OPERATION. Risk to spiderman bhi leta hai, hum to phir bhi business man hain

What is Risk? Is it something related to insanity? OR It is something related to doing what you think you are not capable of doing?

Well for me, Risk is a combination of organized insanity mixed with passion of doing something for better days.

So the question is, should we (startups) take risk and if yes, than how much? The answer is yes, we should take risk in our work, in our life…risk to spiderman bhi leta hai, hum to phir bhi business man hain.

When we do business many time we have to take some descion for which we may not be having enough resources or the capabilities…but unless and until you don’t take that risk you can’t move ahead. Continue reading →

A person asked me today, Neeraj why you are writing “Million Dollar Dream and not Billion Dollar Dream”.

So here goes the story behind writing MILLION DOLLAR DREAM….” One of my client, who is the follower of Law of Attraction, same like me…said Neeraj how much you can earn by the end of this year…I said some random figures without thinking it realistically…and then the golden words came from my client….”Neeraj, law of attraction doesn’t mean “you wish to marry Madona and she will come running”…law of attraction is the result of your thoughts and most importantly your actions…so be realistic and once you achive that figure…then think of the next figure”.

Want to make millions, get rid of emotions

A major learning in my journey of building a million dollar company is get rid of EMOTION.

Some eight months back I was not very good at handling people, I was not able to win arguments and choose to keep my self in control without replying back…just because of one reason…I use to feel more about other person, I use to respect his/her emotions and…I always use to think what the other person feel if  I say something which he may not like…possibly I will loose a friend, a loyal person…but then looking back my journey of around 1.5 years in the business arena….I can come to only one conclusion and that is “GET RID OF EMOTION IF YOU WANT TO MAKE MILLION”.

Why I opted for the job of entrepreneur?

Some 12 years back when we shifted to Mumbai…I had no idea about The Business World and the world of dreams.

Things moved smoothly, I opted for commerce, did Bachelors in Management studies from Mumbai University, saw millions dream and got my first job in Kotak Securities as a Dealers where I use to play in equity market, buying and selling shares for the clients, advising clients in which stock they should invest and whole lot of thing..but after 3 months of time I resigned from that job just because I was not able to see my growth and the life I had planned…in that job.

Then I got job in IRIS (myiris.com) as a financial writer, a place very close to my heart, not because they pay well…but because of their organization culture and the team feeling all around and most importantly IRIS is a school for learner…If you like to do something…and If the bosses have confidence in you and your plan…they will switch you there.
